Why Use IMCS?

1. Gain understanding when cases are not progressing as expected

• Primary care providers may not understand the most appropriate therapeutic direction.
• There may be a discrepancy between the forces of injury and reported severity of injuries.
• Prolonged or plateaued recovery despite various ongoing therapies.
• Non-organic signs (Illness behavior) on examination.

2. Improve Information Clarity

• Detailed past medical history with respect to the current complaint.
• Work, social, and recreational history.
• Predictors of inappropriate illness behavior not related to the incident.
• Review of medical documentation and imaging.
• Thorough review of current complaints.
• Inconsistent vs. consistent impairments on examination.
• Examination for inappropriate illness behaviors and non-organic signs.

3. Establish confidence in abilities to sense ‘early warning’ signs.

• Presentation of person is generally or specifically inconsistent with claimed disabilities.

4. Answer questions that exist regarding Impairment, Activity limitations and Participation Restrictions as per the World Health Organization criteria

• Causation of impairment and disability.
• Review of most appropriate therapies and cessation of inappropriate therapies.
• ‘Essential’, ‘necessary’, and ‘reasonable’ treatment plans.
• Return to Work planning.
• Determination of prognosis.
• Support or counter an opinion put forth by a health care professional retained by legal counsel.

5. Ensure good claim management habits

• Determine appropriate provision of benefits or treatment and for how long.
